Psalm 44 begins with remembrance.

The next generation knows about God’s faithfulness because someone told them.

That’s a responsibility for parents, grandparents, mentors, and every believer.

Our children need more than instructions about what they should believe, they need to hear our story.

Tell them what God has done.

Tell them where you have seen His faithfulness.

Tell them about times when you made mistakes and God gave you grace.

Tell them about prayers God answered.

Tell them about seasons when you didn’t understand what He was doing but learned to trust Him anyway.

The world will tell our children plenty of stories about what is supposed to give them happiness, freedom, identity, and purpose.

We need to tell them the story of Jesus.

We need to show them that the things this world promises don’t ultimately satisfy.

And we need to be honest.

Our children don’t need to see perfect parents.

They need to see parents who trust a perfect God.

They need to see what it looks like to wrestle with sin, repent, receive grace, get back up, and keep following Christ.

Our faith becomes part of the inheritance we leave behind.

Reflect

• What has God brought you through that your children or younger believers need to hear?
• Have you shared your testimony with the next generation?
• What lessons did you learn from chasing things that could never truly satisfy?

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for everything You have done in my life.

Help me not to keep those stories to myself. Give me opportunities to tell the next generation about Your faithfulness.

Help me be honest about my failures and quick to point people toward Your grace.

Let my life demonstrate that You are trustworthy.

Amen.

Today’s Challenge

Tell someone younger than you one specific story about something God has done in your life.

Don’t just tell them what to believe, tell them why you believe it.
