Psalm 44 gives us an important perspective on victory.

The people of Israel had to fight. They had to march. They had to act. But they understood that their ultimate victory didn’t come from their own strength.

It came from God.

There’s a balance here.

Trusting God doesn’t mean sitting on the sidelines and doing nothing.

We still have responsibilities.

We still have to put on the armor.

We still have to make wise decisions.

We still have to resist temptation.

We still have to get up and keep moving.

But we don’t put our ultimate trust in our own ability.

Our strength, intelligence, possessions, accomplishments, influence, or strategies cannot take the place of God.

And this becomes especially important when we’re raising children.

They need to see us working hard—but trusting God.

They need to see us pursue our responsibilities—but recognize that God is the source of our strength.

They need to see us struggle against sin—not pretend that we never struggle.

They need to see that a godly man or woman isn’t someone who never falls, it’s someone who keeps turning back to God.

Psalm 44 ends this portion with a powerful declaration:

“In God we boast all day long, and praise Your name forever.”

That’s where the journey of Psalms 43–44 brings us.

Cry out to God.

Follow His light and truth.

Choose hope.

Tell the next generation.

Trust Him for the victory.

Reflect

• Where are you relying too heavily on your own strength?
• What battle are you facing that you need to surrender to God?
• What are your actions currently teaching the people watching your life?

Prayer

Lord,

Thank You that I don’t have to depend on my own strength.

Help me do what You have called me to do while trusting You with the outcome.

Give me strength to fight against sin, courage to stand for truth, humility to admit when I fail, and faith to keep moving forward.

Let my life teach the people around me that You are faithful.

And when victory comes, help me remember where it came from.

You are my strength.

You are my hope.

You are my God.

Amen.

Identify one area where you’ve been relying primarily on yourself.

“Lord, I will do my part, but I will trust You with the victory.”
