There are times when we simply want God to make things right.

We look around and see injustice, deception, violence, confusion, and things that seem completely backward. Sometimes those things are happening around us. Other times, they’re happening directly to us.

Psalm 43 doesn’t begin with pretending everything is okay. The psalmist cries out to God.

That’s important.

God doesn’t require us to hide our pain before we come to Him. We can bring our questions, frustration, fear, and discouragement directly into His presence.

The psalmist even asks:

“Why do You cast me off?”

His circumstances have caused him to feel distant from God. But feeling distant from God isn’t the same thing as actually being abandoned by God.

Faith doesn’t mean we never struggle, faith means that when we struggle, we know where to go.

The answer to a troubled heart isn’t always an immediate change in circumstances. Sometimes God begins by changing our perspective and reminding us who He is.

Reflect

• What is weighing most heavily on your heart today?
• Have you been trying to carry something that you need to bring honestly before God?
• What would it look like to trust God with the things you cannot control?

Prayer

Father,

I come before You with everything that is troubling my heart. You know the things that confuse me, frustrate me, and cause me to be afraid.

Help me to bring those things to You rather than allowing them to control me. When I don’t understand what You are doing, help me remember who You are.

Be my strength when I am weak and my refuge when I feel overwhelmed.

Amen.

Today’s Challenge

Talk to God honestly today. Don’t simply give Him the polished version of your thoughts. Give Him your real concerns and then leave them in His hands.
